The EBF together with mission partners support God’s multifaceted work in Jordan. Several indigenous workers are involved in this society-transforming ministry. It is a real joy to witness God’s love in action!
Baptists in Jordan
The Baptist ministry in Jordan officially started in 1952 when Southern Baptists from the USA founded a hospital in the city of Ajloun. In 1955, Rev. Jeries Dalleh was appointed the pastor of the church of Ajloun, thereby initiating the first Baptist church in this nation. The Baptist ministry in Jordan grew gradually to reach over 20 churches today, spreading throughout the country.
The Baptists of Jordan established a Christian school in Amman. They developed a multifaceted ministry for the underserved people, including a clinic, women's centre, vocational training, non-formal education for refugees, relief ministry and widows’ ministry. God’s love and the gospel message are shared with the underserved both spiritually and physically. Rev. Dr. Nabeeh Abbassi is the current President of the Baptist Convention in Jordan and he also pastors a Baptist Church of Amman. There are 20 local Baptist churches in Jordan with a total membership of about 1500.
Church Planting in Amman
The Baptist Convention of Jordan has started several new congregations and this work is coordinated by pastor Samer Batarseh. Some of these mission projects are being facilitated by EBF Mission Partnerships and one of them is in Amman. The indigenous worker Helal has written in his past reports:
2022
"Before Easter, our church organized a gospel event attended by at least 300 people. There was an opportunity to profess Christ and more than 20 people came forward. Now we organize discipleship groups for those people and follow up with them individually. We repeated a similar event in November and about 400 people took part, including children. The gospel message was also clearly presented during this event. The Lord has blessed us during this year as we served our people. We recently started women’s ministry. About 30 women meet weekly to study the bible and discuss topics related to their lives, like raising children, marital relationships etc."
2023
"During the first months of the year, several new members were added to the body of Christ and entered on a journey of growth in faith. Three new leaders were commissioned, one of them teaches the Bible in a discipleship group; another one leads worship, and a third one is involved in management. We also plan to increase the number of apprenticeship groups and start regular children's ministry.
There was a family who had challenges which exhausted and frustrated them. By taking care of them, embracing and loving them, and clarifying some matters related to the teaching of God’s word, they accepted the gift of salvation. This resulted in a state of peace for this family. Now we continue visiting them.
We again organized a gospel event that drew many people. We pray for their salvation and try to build bridges of relationships with some of them. The church attendance increased during this year by 30. Now we have 95 members in Khalda Church, and the number increased to 120 persons in the new Sahab Church - Amman."
2024
"We celebrated the birth of the Lord Jesus which was a good occasion for presenting an appropriate message and the response was wonderful. Approximately 400 people heard about God's love and an open door of salvation for them. We thank God that the two churches have now increased in number of members. 12 new people surrendered their lives to Christ over these past couple of months and are currently attending a discipleship group. From the beginning of this year, the number of members at Khalda Church has reached 130. In Sahab Church, the number of members is currently 125."
